I recently attended a great MeetUp hosted by the Fraser Valley Social Media group. The topic of the night was Twitter, and we were really fortunate to have Marc Smith (@Amuse_Events) to talk a bit about how he has used Twitter to create new business opportunities and make some great new connections!
Marc gave a great presentation with many take-away’s, but an underlying theme was that Twitter is a place to develop real and meaningful relationships, NOT a place to advertise and try to sell you product or service!
Despite this great opportunity to develop real relatonships with customers, competitors, potential colleagues and investors, and really anyone you can think of – the majority of businesses are using Twitter as a traditional push marketing tool.
Below I have developed two Twitter Strategies, the first illustrates what happens when a small business uses traditional marketing “push” methods to create value, the second is the strategy that Marc and others have used to create real value through developing genuine relationships!
Now, take a look at the Authentic Twitter Strategy…
(Note*** Thank you to some special members of my great Twitter Community, @OneJillian, @MarieClayman, and @paprikawriting!)
Obviously this is not the only scenario that occurs on Twitter, and definitely not the only strategy a business can pursue to add value.
But the bottom line is…
People are eager to connect, interact, and build genuine relationships, and Twitter offers an incredible opportunity where we can now do this with anyone we want, whether it be customers, mentors, or competitors (the question of “Who” should be laid out in your Twitter Strategy).
I challenge you to at least consider what building these types of relationships would do for your company. If you want to learn more about Twitter and Small Business, feel free to read my post on it here!
As always, you are the most important part of this community, and why I write! I would appreciate and love to hear your thoughts or comments!
